Men are from Mars, Women Are from Venus

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, by John Gray, was published in May 1992 and stayed in the best selling lists for 6 years. In his book, Dr Gray, a doctor in phychology, defends the theory that men and women can’t easily understand each other unless they become aware of the fact that they are as different as beings from different planets. He offers many suggestions for improving husband-wife relationships by understanding the communication style and emotional needs of the opposite gender.

Watch John Gray explaining some of his theories.

“What Makes Men Happy is Not the Same for Women”

“How Men Communicate”

“How Men and Women Cope with Stress Differently”

Do you agree with Gray?

Read this post in a blog about a writing experiment carried out by an English professor from the University of Phoenix, which seems to illustrate John Gray’s theory.

  1. Hi!
After listening to the author of this book, I have to say that I agree with him in some ways. For example when he talks about this kind of details that make women feel better and have a nice day, like “oh you look so beautiful today” or “ You have had your hair cut, do you?”; and, also, when he talks about presents, it’s true that women prefer more little present than only a big one.
So he makes a funny monologue, and now I think I’m going to read the book!
    See you!

  2. Hello.

I strongly disagree with this matter.
I think men and women are most alike, but you can always emphasise on little differences if you want.

On the other hand, the post about the experiment is very funny!
It illustrates the theories of John Gray with an online mailing interaction you can’t miss.
I’m sure the woman was reading -a romantic novel- and the man was playing -videogames- while doing the exercise and none of them were concentrated enough to do their task.
The best part of the “conversation” is the way it ends!

  3. Oh!!! Sorry I wrote a big mistake in my comment… the correction is: “You have had your hair cut, have you?”
    See you!

  4. I totally agree with John Gray! It was a fantastic monologue!
Of course men and women are different. I think John’s comparison “Men are from Mars, women are from Venus” perfectly expresses this idea. In fact it’s difficult for me to find something common between both: we think, act and behave differently!
    – Men love football, women don’t
    – Women love going shopping, men hate it
    – Women can do several things at the same time (something impossible for men)…
Of course, there are always exceptions, but generally speaking, we are different beings!
What I enjoyed the most was the second video “How men communicate” because John says an absolute truth:”men have to do the little stuff” It’s absolutely necessary for a woman to count on a men who tells her that he loves her, who tells her what a wonderful dress she is wearing and, what’s more important, a man who doesn’t forget her birthday or their anniversary.
It’s better to say a woman: darling, I love you than giving her a lavish present (let me remind you that there are always exceptions)
